A Masters Pennant at the Pairs Head

Oct 12, 2024

The club had three entries for the Pairs Head today, and also a composite QBC/Upper Thames RC crew. In women’s Intermediate coxless pairs Katia Zeddam and Emma Greer (start number of 246) finished 327th overall in a time of 16 min. 17.6 sec. Emma stepped in as a substitute on the day after Katia’s normal partner withdrew through injury. In women’s lightweight coxless pairs Anna Lawford Davies and Iris Tromans (start number 236) finished 320th overall in a time of 16 min. 12.1 sec. In open masters H/I double sculls Tom Bishop (QBC) and Rod Stewart (Upper Thames RC), with a start number of 315, finished 158th overall in a time of 14 min. 56.5 sec, winning the Masters H/I pennant. In open club coxless pairs Logan Winter and Daniel Hegarty had the misfortune to steer erratically approaching the finishing line and collided with a returning crew, ending up capsizing and going for a swim. In spite of this they crossed the finishing line and were eventually awarded a time, albeit with a penalty for their steering. If it hadn’t been for this mishap they surely would have won the Open Club coxless pairs pennant. Tom and Rod were also penalised for dangerous steering but had a comfortable cushion over their nearest rivals.
