H’smith Head – Race Report W Mas C/D/E 8+

Feb 26, 2025

The weather for the Hammersmith Head was pretty good despite the mid week forecasts of strong winds and heavy rain. We were pleased Sunday provided a bit of respite despite strong headwinds and the flag changing to yellow for the day of the race.

We checked our historical records and believe this was the first women’s masters eight to race for QBC in a head race (no pressure!) and first of the season on our home stretch of the Tideway. So we made a little bit of history for QBC.

Our crew consisted of 2 with only 6 weeks sweep experience and a last minute change due to illness – thanks to Colleen our super sub who stepped in the day before the race.

Under the expert guidance of Simon our coach, mentor and cox we set off over the start line with Putney Town very close behind us. We started off at a cracking pace and maintained a good position on the stream for the majority of the course keeping a steady 28 pace throughout. We finished with a time of 13:29 in 5th place overall.

Looking forward to our upcoming races at Wehorr and the Vesta Head!

Boat 155 W Mas C/D/E 8+ consisted of Simon Hunt (cox), Kirsty Russell-Duff, Lorna Anderson, Colleen Cooper, Millie Dutto, Jennie Elsmore, Jo Midgley, Roberta Gargiulo, Ainslie Rimmer
