Some Old Videos from Henley Royal Regatta

Apr 23, 2025

Geoff Peel has unearthed a couple of videos in the AP archive, showing mostly the social scene at Henley Royal Regatta, but featuring crews from Quintin Boat Club. These were the sort of short films that were shown in cinemas under the banner “British Movietone News”.

The first is from 1973, featuring one of our two Britannia Cup crews (the other rowing as Townmead RC) in a heat against Thames Tradesmen’s RC. The crew can be seen at 1 min. 10 sec. and again at 1 min 18 sec. You can see the details of the crew at https://quintinboatclub.org/henley/entry.php?ref=1973B.

The second is from 1974, featuring one of our two Thames Cup crews (the other rowing as Townmead RC) in a heat against Rob Roy RC. The crew can be seen at 1 min. 28 sec. and again at 1 min 43 sec. You can see the details of the crew at https://quintinboatclub.org/henley/entry.php?ref=1974T.

Older members may recognise former captain and vice-president, the late Gordon Madge, in the open grandstand at 1 min 54 sec. Gordon is in the second row on the left , wearing a white QBC cap.
