The Masters Head – Race Report Mx Mas DEF 8+

Mar 30, 2025

A mixed crew led by our very own Mike, whose experience is double that of all our combined years, with much of the crew having only learnt to row in the last four years.  We are delighted to be the newest kids of the QBC racing block this weekend.

The weather gods smiled upon us, though our starting position left us with some extra time for marshalling. In the midst of this, we shared light-hearted moments and worked to avoid becoming overly familiar with our friends from Kent—a feat that required both skill and charm.

We pushed off at a respectable S/R 29, which we maintained to the final straight, rising to 32 for a sprint finish; Rita delivered a masterclass performance, commanding the race from start to finish. She ensured every crew felt our presence as we powered relentlessly under each bridge.

Throughout the race, we were cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd of supporters, and the post-race atmosphere on Putney embankment was equally vibrant, where we pulled in for a “splash and dash’ and gossiped with old friends and adversaries.

Our row back was full of belly laughs and singing, and a VIP escort the entire way home, greeted by our fabulous teammates, made the event even more unforgettable.

Back at home, graciously hosted by our wonderful neighbours, MAABC, rowers swapped stories of triumph while enjoying well-deserved refreshments and singing performances from our German friends touring from Eschwege Rowing Club.

The day ended as it began—with a true sense of togetherness and an enduring love for the sport.
