Tom Bishop Wins 5 Gold Medals!

Jun 20, 2024

Tom Bishop had a very successful weekend at the British Rowing Masters Championships in Nottingham 15-16 June

On Saturday he was the only QBC competitor on sculling day, competing in H4x Composite crew with Lee Brown and Rod Stewart UTRC, plus Pete Atkinson of Dart Totnes:

Next up a singles race

Finally an H2x with Mark Alloway of TSS on Saturday.

Saturday was a good day as he won 3 sculling golds.

Sunday Tom subbed into a very scratch TSS G4-, being introduced to the crew as we gathered to race (a French man Luc, and American Chris, and a brit Tim), they then found a boat,  and then some blades and Tom was put at stroke and set off but arrived late on the start for an official warning. To Tom’s surprise they came 2nd and got through the eliminator race to go into the final. This meant taking part in 4 races Sunday. They managed a 4th place in the final, which was also a surprise as they expected to be last.

Then there was the QBC H8 which got a Gold.

Finally I got into another 4- ( Lee Brown ,Rod Stewart UTRC, and Miggsy Milligan from Poplar ), this time a crew that had raced together before, albeit over a year ago…and they chased down some even older 75 years average guys from Weybridge as they had an 11 second start who averaged 70+ as H.  They caught them with perhaps 250 m to go to win another gold.

Tally: a fourth place and 5 golds – Impressive at 75+ Well done Tom

PS BR Are sending out the 5th gold medal in the post due to ad admin error!
