Winners at British Rowing Masters Championships

Jun 17, 2024

Our racing masters squad came home with the medals on Sunday evening, having competed in both Masters G and Masters H eights at the national masters championships. The course was the usual 1000m at Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham.

Their first race was at 12:08 in the ‘H’ event – a two-boat final against Weybridge RC whom they beat by 9.99 seconds to take the gold medals. Then at 14:16 they had a four-boat final in the ‘G’ event against Bedford/Star, Tideway Scullers and Bristol Ariel. Bedford/Star are becoming somewhat of a nemesis for our squad and pushed them into the silver medal position by 2.21 seconds, with the other two crews well adrift some 15-16 seconds behind. Anyway the win in ‘H’ continued the club’s succession of wins at this premier event which now total nearly 60 since 2008.

The results for the Masters G eights may be found at https://rowresults.co.uk/results/brmc24/Race366.pdf and for the Masters H eights at https://rowresults.co.uk/results/brmc24/Race340.pdf.

The names of the winning crew may be found on our Head and Regatta Wins page.

As well as racing in our Masters H eight, Tom Bishop was also competing in I/J handicap single sculls and a number of composite crews, combining with other clubs. In the singles Tom secured victory over Rod Stewart (formerly of Dart Totnes, now of Upper Thames RC) who has been both a crew buddy and a rival of Tom on many occasions.

Adding to this success, Tom also won Masters H-J handicap quad sculls in a composite with Dart Totnes and Upper Thames and Masters H/I handicap coxless fours in a composite with Upper Thames and Poplar Blackwall & District. Both these crews also contained Rod Stewart! Tom also chalked up another first place, in Masters H double sculls, but unfortunately for us was entered in Tideway Scullers colours.

The results of these of Tom’s victorious races for Quintin may be found at https://rowresults.co.uk/results/brmc24/Race174.pdf (Masters I/J 1x), https://rowresults.co.uk/results/brmc24/Race133.pdf (Masters H-J 4x-) and https://rowresults.co.uk/results/brmc24/Race369.pdf (Masters H/I 4-).
