QBC Summer Holiday Camp

What a glorious week, revelling in the sheer joy of an intensive sculling course led by Jackie Eastwood! Each day greeted us with calm, glistening water and an ebb tide, creating the perfect playground for adventure. Jackie had everyone trying all sorts of tricks and mastering new skills, making the learning feel like pure fun.

The course was designed for scullers who felt confident in their single scull and were eager to stretch their abilities in a small boat. We discovered just how steady a scull can be—balancing bravely for square-blade rowing, lying back and on the bow, standing tall on the boat, and sneaking toward the catch with poised square blades. Lots of work on our hands, hours dedicated to our rockovers, quick hands and early squares, and spinning on the spot (handy for the ladder apparently.)

A highlight was our hare and tortoise race from the lock. Well done to our magnanimous winner, Jimmy, for his well-deserved first place! As the week drew to a close, we tried our hands at even more balancing feats and celebrated with a chilled glass of Rosé on the terrace.

I speak for everyone when I say it was an absolute privilege to be part of such a fantastic course. Our heartfelt thanks go to Jackie, who coached with energy and great gusto the whole week, and we can’t wait for the next one!
