Weybridge Silver Sculls

Oct 24, 2025

A favourite of mine over the years, Weybridge Silver Sculls is one of the Autumn Long Distance Sculling events on the non tidal Thames. It is short at 3300m and has two straights of around 1k each with an s bend in the middle between them.  A great event for singles and doubles. Short but technical.

I was QBC only representative and entered Master I singles in the first of 4 divisions at 9.30 am ; and because I was making the effort to go I also entered the last division at 3.30 pm. As there was no master event in this division I entered Senior 1. I won the Masters I after my main opponent Rod Stewart of Upper Thames had serious steering issues.  The afternoon division in Senior 1 was rather embarrassing as I was racing a lot of youngsters from Leander, Molesey and Kingston ( amongst others). Whilst marshalling for the start I explained to them that I would try to keep out of their way !  In the event I was passed by three and held the rest off…they were all considerably faster than me of course. My time in masters I was 15’26’’ and the second time down the course 15’42’’.
